Lady Iolite
::Di makes a small throat-clearing sound:: Excuse me, Lady Iolite? Time for that interview that you agreed to. Perhaps you'd like to tell the guests the basics, like name, rank and what you do for a living as it were? ::Her eyes appear above the book, slightly startled:: Oh, goodness! I must have lost track of the time. Please forgive me. ::she drops lightly to the floor, closes the book--titled "Probability Wave Calculus"--and places it on a nearby table, then assumes a prim seat on a chair:: You already know my name, of course; I am the senior assistant librarian here in the Tower library. Should the Chief Librarian ever be away or incapacitated, I would assume his duties here. ::a slight shrug and a gentle smile:: It's nothing spectacular or showy, but I'm very happy with it. What's your birthday, and how old are you? Well, I mark my birthdate on May 5. You can round my age off to about 3 billion years, unless you want me to be more specific? . . . ::A bit hastily, waving a hand in a dismissive gesture:: No, no, that's all right. Okay, so how tall are you, and how much do you weigh? I'm about 5'5", and weigh approximately 115 pounds. Color of your hair and eyes? My hair's a sapphire blue, fading to violet at the tips. ::Fans one hand through her hair to display the color change:: My eyes are pale gray with a faint yellow tinge, the color of my stone when it's held a certain way. One way it's sapphire blue tinged with violet, the other it's nearly colorless. It's quite an interesting effect. ::Nods, agreeing with that:: I'm sure it is. All right, so what sort of powers do you have? I seem to have an unlimited capacity for getting lost in a book. ::she pauses, allowing the guests to laugh, all the while wearing a slightly bemused smile:: Other than that, nothing too remarkable; I'm a librarian, after all, not a warrior. Like the rest of my people, I can teleport--my field is a pale-yellow and grey swirl, like smoke--and I'm telepathic with most races. I've also got a bit of empathy, though I'm nowhere near as gifted as some; for the most part, I only pick up very strong or deeply-felt emotions. To some degree, I can inspire patience and calm in those around me with projective empathy. I can also levitate--which can be very helpful when I'm trying to reach the higher shelves. ::a little smile; then she grows a bit more serious:: While I try to avoid violent situations, I do have ways of defending myself--my offensive attack is a spray of crystal shards, and my defensive power is a force field that's a sort of translucent gray. Do you have any powers that are specific just to you? Don't we all? ::Another of those calm, gentle smiles:: I can read extremely fast--faster than most people can think, actually, and I can also translate virtually any written language with ease. I also have a photographic memory, which certainly comes in handy during the course of my duties. Oh . . . ::she leans forward slightly, dropping her voice to a whisper:: I do have one other ability, though I don't like to let people know about it. I can become invisible. ::she sits back, clearing her throat delicately:: ::That gets a raised eyebrow as she wonders what sort of invisibility it is, but she decides to drop it since Iolite seems to be reluctant to speak about that. Looks the Librarian over and tilts her head:: You claim to be unassuming, yet I'm sure you've had a few adventures in your long life. I've probably written them all down somewhere, too. ::wry smile:: If you like, I can look them up for you . . . ::Chuckles, shaking her head negatively:: Maybe later. So do you have any hobbies or interests that you'd like to mention? Other than a newfound interest in spending time with my husband--we're newly married, you know. It was the most interesting--oh, yes. I'm sorry. Other than that, I have a few hobbies here and there. I play the harp, and I've a little talent for the piano as well. Though for the most part, I enjoy reading. Yes, I would rather expect that. ::A giggle:: It was a most interesting what? This I'd like to hear . . . Perhaps some other time. ::a soft giggle:: He might get embarrassed if I told complete strangers. He? Your husband, I assume. So why not tell the guests who the lucky guy is? Oh, of course. My husband is Kyanite, the Chief Librarian. We've known each other ever since I stepped from the Mirror, actually, but I never knew how he felt until recently. ::Raises her eyebrow at that as well:: You never had a clue at all? He hid it extremely well, and I must admit that I'd never considered it. He's been a close friend and mentor for a very long time, and I never thought to look below the surface of that relationship. So what made you decide to consider it after you did find out about it? Well . . . a few friends had hinted about it, but he finally told me how he felt. Once he did, I felt incredibly stupid for never having noticed. ::an embarrassed little smile:: I also realized that I felt the same way and had just ignored it, thinking it was really nothing more than a very close friendship. I suppose, though, that it's all working out wonderfully for the two of you now though? I've never been happier. ::a sweet, lovely smile lights up her gentle face:: That's good. ::A pause as she thinks a moment:: Any likes or dislikes? Oh, I could go on all day about the things I like. ::she indicates the entire Library with a wave of her hand:: I could stay here forever, just reading and learning. I'm discovering that there's more outside the walls of the Library, thanks to Kyanite, but I'm never unhappy to be here. As for what I dislike . . . well. I admit that I dislike some of my own people. ::holds up a hand to forestall any deeper questions:: I don't wish to name names, mind you. There are a few who are boisterous, rude, showy, some who are downright rotten . . . Other than that, my dislikes are more nitpicking than anything else. After all, I'm very partial to organization and order, and I can't abide sloppiness. Another thing I don't like is seeing people I care about being hurt; I value those close to me very much. Anything else you'd like to mention to the guests? Feel free to browse through the Library, of course. Just let me know if you want to borrow something, or can't find what you're looking for. I'll be right here. ::she smiles gently, winningly, and picks up the book again:: ::A soft giggle at getting rather summarily dismissed, but in a nice way. Turns and looks and looks at you, gesturing for you to follow her out of the Tower Library:: Come on, let's go find someone else to talk to, or we can go elsewhere in the Tower . . .
